Franciscan Monastery

Can you get a feeling for how my mind was whirling while I stood in this place. I had the place to myself. Just me, my camera and my tripod. Well, my daughter was sitting behind me reading a book. 🙂 Anyway, everywhere I looked in this gorgeous building there was something to shoot. It is the kind of place you have to go back again and again and each time you will find something new to photograph. So I can’t wait to return and focus on something new. These shots are different angles of the main center area under the large dome. I bracketed these shots (took three different exposures) and processed them in Photomatix and Nik to get this look. I can’t decide which of these monastery shots are my favorites, so if you can decide, please let me know! I still have dozens more like this of more things…, but I think I will move on to the National Basilica for next week’s posts, because it was also something new and exciting.

I am so grateful my daughter, Rachel, and her husband, Scott,  introduced me to these new places in their home town of Washington D.C. They always find the very coolest things and they constantly go out and discover new things. For example, last week they rode their bikes 37 miles to check out some waterfalls. Hmm…. something to see next time I am in DC. Thanks for the discoveries…Rachel and Scott!
